Need repairs in your home?
Take action today!

Create a letter that notifies your landlord of repair issues via USPS Certified Mail®. This service is free, secure, and legally vetted.

Select your housing type to get started:

Housing in buildings built before January 1, 1974 with six or more units, including Single Room Occupancy (“SRO”) hotels and rooming houses. All apartments in buildings that receive a tax abatement such as J-51, 421a, and 421g are also stabilized.
This is a rare kind of housing! Buildings that had three or more residential units before February 1, 1947, where the tenant or immediate family member has been continuously living in the apartment since July 1, 1971.
Market rate tenants typically live in buildings of fewer than six (6) units, newer buildings, or formerly rent stabilized apartments that a landlord deregulated before 2019.
Federally-funded affordable housing developments owned by the government.
New York City has many forms of affordable housing. Some common types include Mitchell Lama, Project-Based Section 8 buildings (also known as HUD), LIHTC, HDFC rentals, and others.

Why mail a Letter of Complaint?

Your landlord is responsible for keeping your home and building safe and livable at all times. This is called the Warranty of Habitability.

Having a record of notifying your landlord makes for a stronger legal case. If your landlord has already been unresponsive to your requests to make repairs, a letter is a great tactic to start. Through USPS Certified Mail®, you will have an official record of the requests you’ve made to your landlord. Our nonprofit covers the cost of mailing this letter for you!

They were terrific because their letter got results that mine didn’t. The letters from JustFix got my landlord to do the work. Now anytime I call, my landlord gets things done.

I like that you texted me to check in on my status. You all were the first online advocacy group I’ve seen that was accessible and easy to use. JustFix’s digital platform has definitely been a game changer.
